David J. Smith Boats is located in West Head on Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, home of the famous "Cape Islander" style boat. Situated among many successful boat shops in the area, David J. Smith Boats has quickly gained a reputation for quality work, competitive prices and sturdy, reliable vessels. David and his crew custom build commercial as well as recreational boats ranging in sizes from 14' 6" to 26' in length and they do repairs on existing boats. They are also in the business of lengthening and widening fishing boats up to 40' in length.
Our boats have been shipped to such places as Maine, Massachusetts, Ontario, Florida, Connecticut and New Hampshire and to many places in Nova Scotia. The shop has built many pleasure crafts and some of our commercial vessels are being used for lobstering, irish moss harvesting and clamming. We mold and custom finish the SmithSkiff 14, 16, 18 as well as our larger boats, 22 to 26 feet in length. These Cape Island style boats can be used as open boats with or without console, or a full wheelhouse/pilot house with bunks in the cuddy. We build each boat to meet the owner's exact specifications while reflecting the traditional Cape Island style.
